Nearly three years ago, our state became one of the safest places for babies in the womb thanks to Arkansas’ pro-life laws already on the books when the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade with Dobbs v. Jackson – but What If Arkansas’ pro-life laws were wiped away? The Dobbs ruling sent national abortion groups into overdrive to protect their lucrative business, and they successfully enshrined their extreme agenda into 11 state constitutions across the country using deceptively worded amendments to hide the full impact of what they actually do.
These pro-abortion extremists tried to make the ballot in Arkansas too, filing a Ballot Question Committee (BQC) with the benign-sounding name of “Arkansans for Limited Government” – with the not-so-benign amendment of unlimited abortions. Thankfully, procedural errors committed by their BQC kept their amendment off the Arkansas ballot.
But What If they had been successful in placing the initiative on the ballot? And What If, heaven forbid, the extreme amendment was approved, making Arkansas one of the most dangerous states for babies and moms, overnight?
These are burning, keep-you-up-at-night questions, because it’s the reality that states like Ohio, Michigan, Arizona, Montana and our neighbor Missouri, now face and we can learn a lot from them.
Over the following weeks, we will look at how extremists have advanced their agenda because we know the abortion industry hasn’t taken their eye off of Arkansas. In fact, one of the largest dark-money donors to the pro-abortion campaigns specifically notes in their annual report that they are preparing for the 2026 election and looking at Arkansas.
Our “What if?” campaign is not a scare tactic; it’s a warning about what could happen if we don’t remain vigilant and a call to action for all who are committed to protecting the unborn. Defending life starts with understanding the forces that threaten it, and the tactics they and their allies in the media use to hoodwink the public.
We dodged a bullet last year.
Our goal at Arkansas Right to Life is to make sure we have an army ready to defeat any future attempt to roll back the progress we’ve made in protecting the unborn.
